A strong start for Jack in the FIA European Championships, a FIA heat win, then disaster!

Updated: Sep 10, 2023

Jack's first FIA Karting race started really promisingly. The team had worked really hard to get the material on point. Friday saw Jack qualify P4 in group, P11 out of 83 drivers. P11 saw Jack start the heats on the second row, in Group E, which meant an outside start for all but one of the heats.

Heat E-F - The asphalt at Valencia is abrasive, so part of the strategy for the weekend was to look after the tires and, in the early heats, not to battle. Jack started P3 but bought it home for a solid P4.

Heat A-E - Saturday saw Jack start with a strong performance and some epic overtakes. Jack finished P2 on track; however, Jack was awarded the heat win after penalties.

Heat C-E - Disaster struck. Jack started P4 on the outside. Into turn one, Jack went around the outside; after the corner, a driver hit Jack's kart, pushing his back end. The drivers kart went over the side pod and on top of Jack's steering wheel, fracturing Jack's wrist. Jack was unable to carry on and drove one-handed back to the pits.

His race and event were over. The move by the other driver was super aggressive and dangerous. The FIA did not award any penalty. The driver did come and apologize to Jack.

This weekend showed so much potential. Jack was in P5 in the standings after his first two heats and had really good speed.

Even though he missed three heats, he still qualified for the Super Heat in P37, although he could not participate. He was classified as P44 in the event.
