High hopes after qualifying P7 in Cremona

Updated: Sep 10, 2023

I’ll remember Cremona for a few tough races this year. The fourth round of the FIA European Karting Championship being no exception.

The weekend started off with a decent qualifying, which saw me qualify P3 in my group, P7 overall. I got to start P3 in each of my five heats.

My bad luck started in my first heat Heat A-B when my chain let go on the last lap and I retired. I was in 4th place.

In my next heat, Heat A-E I had a great start, but struggled for pace and fell back to P5.

Saturday was a hot day in Cremona. I was fast in warm up on my practice tires, but as soon as we got racing I didn’t have the pace.

In Heat A-D I had a good start, and battled around my start position but as the race unfolded I struggled and slowly fell back. I finished P6.

Sadly that was the story of my other heats. Heat A-C and Heat A-F were a struggle. I got good starts getting to P2 but could not hold the position and I fell back to P6 or P5.

Sunday, was brutal. I started Super Heat B in P10, I made it around the first few corners and was squeezed onto the grass and spun around for a DNF. Such bad luck, but that’s racing.

I started the final in P27. I tried to go forward. My kart came in around lap 7 and I started to lap at the same pace of the leaders. I made my way through traffic climbing to P21. On the last lap I was punted off the track and into the grass. That’s how it goes sometimes. I was classified P24.

A tough weekend all in all.

Thank you to my team for putting in a ton of work, trying to unlock our pace deficit. On Monday, five laps into a practice session my race motors bottom end let go. Perhaps that was why I was off the pace!

Congrats to my team mate René Lammers for winning the FIA European Karting Championship in OK. You are an amazing driver and team mate!

Congrats to Parolin and GFR Engines for winning the the FIA OK EUROPEAN KARTING CHAMPIONSHIP!

Congrats to Oleksandr Bondarev for winning the FIA European Championship in OKJ!

Thank you to Lorenzo Travisanutto for always helping me improve, Mirco  Anelli for working so hard, changing everything this weekend and Roberto Toninelli for throwing the kitchen sink at my kart to unlock pace.
