Jack made lots of progress this weekend as he establishes himself in OKJ. The first round of Master Series was about getting the most from his set-up and squeezing out those last few tenths.
In practice, Jack was fast; however, qualifying didn’t go to plan, and Jack struggled to get a clean lap in due to traffic. Jack Qualified P22 out of 89 competitors.
Jack qualified in Group D, which meant he had to start on the off-pole side in three of his five heats.
In his first heat, he started on the off-pole side (C-D) he lost ten places and battled back to P7, but a pushback bumper classified him in P15.
In his second heat, he started on the pole side and finished P4. The next off-pole, he finished P15.
Heat (D-E) was a breakthrough heat; he started 7th on the pole side and won the heat, his first in OKJ.
In the final heat, Jack started 8th on the off-pole side and fell back to P16 at the start and worked his way back to P11. With penalties, Jack was classified as P8.
Jack had made it through the qualifying heats in P13, making up nine places in his qualifying position.
Jack started Pre-final A in 7th place and finished in P7, despite lots of action and battling.
Jack started the final in P12, on the off-pole side. His side of the grid had a poor start, and Jack fell to P17. He battled through the race, setting purple sectors and lap times. He raced to P12. On lap 14, Jack sent it from too far back for P11, and the two drivers made contact. Jack fell back to P17, and the other driver sadly retired. The stewards awarded Jack a 10-second penalty for the incident. Jack was classified P26.
While the final result was disappointing for his pace, the weekend was progress for Jack.
