Round 2 of the RGMMC Champions of the Future at the Steel Ring in Třinec, CZ
The Steel Ring in Třinec in the Czech Republic was a new venue for Jack and other drivers. Set in an industrial border town with Poland, the Steel Ring is a modern and impressive facility. The track is technical with 17 turns. It’s hard to pass and you just have to send it. To make passing harder the kart becomes harder to drive when you are following another driver.
RGMMC are experimenting running the event from Wednesday to Saturday. We practice on Wednesday, Qualifying and the heats on Thursday, heats on Friday and the finals Saturday.
Qualifying started well, with Jack placing P3 in group 2, P9 overall and putting him in Group C. This meant Jack started the heats in either 3rd or 4th.
In his first heat, heat C-D Jack had a good start and had a steady drive to P2.
In Heat C-F Jack started P3 but fell to P9 on the first lap, however Jack fought back to finish P4 and got the fastest lap in the process.
Jack had a solid Friday finishing out the qualifying heats with two second place finishes and a fourth place, to place him P6 at the end of the heat stages.Jacks had decent pace through the heat stages. Jack started Super Heat B in P3. A messy start saw Jack fall to P6, recovering to P4.
The heavens opened for the finals and Jack struggled falling from P4 to P13 by the end of the first lap. Jack finished P17, a disappointing result after a really strong weekend. To start the final in P4 is great progress for Jack.
