A heat win and a top 10 finish in the FIA European Karting Championship

Updated: Sep 10, 2023

The Rodby track encouraged lots of racing with overtaking opportunities on most corners. Nobody had it easy. It led to lots of close, frenetic racing. Great to watch. Nerve-wracking for parents!

Jack had the pace for a decent qualifying. On his last but one lap Jack was top of the timing, however on his final push lap he caught a very slow driver on the last corner which killed his lap and saw him qualify in P10. The gap from P3 to P10 was one tenth of a second.

In his first heat, heat C-D Jack made great progress and moved up from P10 to finish P5, P4 after penalties.

In heat B-D Jack was on the outside, going 3 wide going into turn 3 and was pushed out and fell to 24th and last place. He spent his race climbing back to P15, P14 after penalties.

In his first heat, heat C-D Jack made great progress and moved up from P10 to finish P5, P4 after penalties.

With lesson learned from heat B-D Jack made steady progress in heat A-D moving up from P10 to P8 on the first lap and over 9 laps moved to P5. The last lap was crazy, with lots of contact. Jack was the beneficiary, finding himself in P2 with a couple of corners to go. P1 defended, enabling Jack to up and under in the last corner and drag race to the finish line which saw Jack WON!

Heat D-F saw Jack start P9, he quickly worked his way to P5. He was in the lead bunch in the last lap but was unable to gain positions.

In Jacks final heat, heat D-E Jack made good progress through to P5, but the leading pack was defending hard which enabled the following pack to catch up. Jack fell back into that pack but battled his way back to finish P5, P4 after penalties.

After all the up and downs Jack finished the qualifying heats P13.

Sunday started with a Super Heat. Jack started P7, but 3 corners in he put two wheels out and fell to P15. Jack raced back, but a half pass pushed him back into the mess and he fell back to finish a disappointing P14.

Jack started the final in P14 and he battled around that position for all 21 laps. The racing was full-on battling - attacking, defending, fast laps to close gaps, attacking, defending…

Jack fought really hard learning from mistakes he made in the super heat. Jack finished P12 on track, P9 after penalties.

All in all a tough weekend for Jack, but lots of learning and importantly progress!
